Wake Sports Education
There has been significant effort put into educating both wake sports enthusiasts and the general public about proper boat operations.
Organizations like the Water Sports Industry Association (WSIA) and local groups are collaborating with towns and the state to create educational materials such as graphics and pamphlets aimed at enhancing awareness and understanding of wake boating.
For reference, examples of these resources are provided below.
The Balsam Lake Surf Club:
The Balsam Lake Surf Club has been at the forefront of working with the local community (the Balsam Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District) to educate and set expectations of not only the wake boat community, but boating enthusiasts altogether. They have created material that is handed out at local marinas and restaurants, along with creating a surf club to be able to communicate readily with members with any concerns or questions. Attached below are the front and back of a tri-fold handout and a poster style board.
Water Sports Industry Assocation (WSIA):
The WSIA has been actively working to educate the broader boating community. They have created a variety of resources, including pamphlets, signs available for request at boat ramps, and a 12-minute video designed to educate all boaters about water sports safety and best practices..

Manitowish Lakes continues to work on education of the boating community. They have created a variety of resources, including pamphlets, a sticker and signs available for request at boat ramps, and a website that includes a sign up to a boating pledge of water sports safety and best practices.
